Echoes of Starfall

A narrative RPG

A Narrative RPG
Built on Memory and Choice

Three hundred years after its sun went dark, the planet Kelan is slowly freezing. You play as an Echoreader, one of the rare few who can read memories, racing to uncover what caused the catastrophe before the world goes cold for good. Every non-player character has their own memories, loyalties and emotional state. They remember what you did and what you said, and that shapes how the story unfolds at its most pivotal moments.

World

The World

Three centuries after its star burned out, the people of Kelan survive on the last of the planet's geothermal heat and on the Echoes.

Echoes are traces of memory that cling to objects, ruins and people. Only a handful can read them. These Echoreaders are both indispensable and distrusted, needed by society yet always kept at arm's length.

Your journey begins as you arrive in Afterglow, the last city where the lights still burn. Inside its walls, seven factions hold each other in check, an old friend knows more than they let on, and a shared history lies buried that no one wants to talk about.

You can choose to be honest or to keep secrets. Either path moves the story forward, but each sets off a different chain of consequences down the line. The world keeps track of what you do, and at the right moment, it shows you the results.

Gameplay

Core Gameplay

01

Memory Reading

Read objects that hold lingering memories to step into first-person memory fragments. See events through other people's eyes, including what they really think of you.

  • Look around freely and probe deeper inside each fragment to uncover hidden details
  • Revisit the same memory in a later chapter and new details surface as your understanding grows
  • Reading too much builds up mental strain, which limits the dialogue options available to you
02

Character Memory & Relationships

Characters don't track an affinity score. They remember specific events: the promises you made, the requests you turned down and the lies you told.

  • Characters bring up past events on their own and change their attitude and options accordingly
  • Characters compare notes about you, so your reputation spreads across entire factions
  • Lies can be cross-checked, and getting caught has consequences
03

Factions & Defining Choices

The seven factions want things that cannot all be true at once, and you cannot satisfy everyone. Decisions at key moments permanently close some paths while opening others.

  • Key story beats are hand-authored to keep the narrative structure intact
  • 4 main endings and more than ten character endings
  • Defining choices cannot be undone by reloading a save
04

Exploration & Survival

Beyond the city lies a frozen wasteland where supplies, body heat and light must be carefully planned. Exploration carries real risk without burying you in inventory micromanagement.

  • A hand-painted, semi-open map with 12 explorable regions
  • Lightweight resource management that keeps the focus on the journey
  • Combat is optional, and some encounters can be resolved through negotiation

Development Updates

The team shares regular progress reports, covering both what is finished and what is still being refined.

2026.08

First gameplay demo revealed, global pre-registration opens

The demo shows the same story sequence playing out differently across separate choice paths. Steam wishlisting and mobile pre-registration opened at the same time.

2026.06

Third iteration of the Character Memory System

The first two versions had characters retaining too much, which made interactions feel unnatural. This revision keeps only emotionally weighted events and fades the rest according to defined rules.

2026.03

Chapters 1 to 3 of the main story fully playable

Internal testers can now play through the first three chapters, which take 9 hours on average. Faction-wide reputation spread was integrated and tested for the first time.

2025.11

Art direction locked

After comparing a realistic direction against a hand-painted one, the team settled on a painterly, hand-painted style and remade all character art and environment concepts.

2025.05

Project greenlit

A core team of 6 kicked off the project and built the first playable prototype in 11 weeks to prove out the gameplay value of character memory.
