Ruinwalker enters Steam Early Access, first-phase content roadmap announced

The new Roguelike deckbuilder Ruinwalker is now available in Steam Early Access, launching simultaneously on iOS and Android. This phase includes 3 regions, 48 cards, 2 playable characters and a daily challenge mode, with each run lasting about 35–50 minutes.

Ruinwalker is the first full-scale application of the company's Procedural Content Generation system. Map layouts, event chains and enemy behavior are regenerated for every run and must pass worldbuilding consistency checks, keeping cross-run content repetition below 15%. The team plans content updates every two weeks during Early Access, with the full release planned to include 6 regions and more than 120 cards.

Character Memory System v3 rebuild lifts retrieval accuracy to 93%

The technology team has completed the third rebuild of the Character Memory System, separating memory into three independently managed layers: event memory, character profile and relationship state, and introducing an emotion-weighted forgetting strategy. Following the rebuild, memory retrieval accuracy rose from 86% to 93%, while context usage dropped by approx. 58%. According to the team, the previous two versions retained too much memory, which made interactions feel less natural.

Tiered inference rolled out, cutting monthly compute cost per character to under ¥0.6

The technology team has deployed a new tiered model-routing and semantic caching mechanism: about 70% of everyday interaction requests are handled by local caching and lightweight models, with large-scale models reserved for key story moments. In testing, the average monthly compute cost per character stayed under ¥0.6, approx. 76% lower than an all-large-model approach, while time to first token in dialogue also improved.

Industry Insights: Key considerations for productizing character dialogue

In a joint article, the technology and design teams draw on several internal iterations to argue that open-ended character dialogue does not by itself improve the player experience. Common issues fall into three areas: personality drift over long-term interaction, loss of narrative structure when designers do not lock key story beats, and compute costs that exceed what the business model can sustain. The article also proposes two practical remedies: lore card constraints and key-beat locking.
